The Ace of Spades

This is an entry I am doing for Zach Franzen's forthcoming post on the Portland Studios Blog. You should check it out. He got most of the staff at Portland to submit an illustration on the theme of cowboys, rendered on a 4x6 card. There are some real gems there.

I love doing these little things. I'd like to put together a full set of these gunslinger playing cards at some point...

  4. Great sense of lights and darks in this. Love his shadowy, grizzled face.

  5. Good call Digital Scott, you have me there. I hope I can be forgiven on the grounds that Sam Elliot is the quintessential cowboy. I think if Zach had phrased it as 'gunslinger' this guy might look a little more Clint Eastwood though....
and hey thank you all for the remarks!

  11. "i want five sets" said hillary

"but we can't afford five sets" said other hillary glumly

"i wonder if we can afford one set?" said hillary

"oh," replied other hillary pessimistically, "i am sure when we are rich and famous, we could afford one set. but i am sure when WE are rich and famous, what's-his-butt will be rich and famous too, so therefore we wouldn't be on the same level of rich and famousness."

  12. Hillary, because you are Hillary, I will sell you 5 sets for the price of one, and I would sell you 5 sets for the price of one no matter how rich and famous you are.
