  1. Justin, I have been following your blog for some time now, but finally decided to comment. This piece is really beautiful...in a horrifying way. I live in Kansas, so the whole OZ thing is part of our lives out here. Keep going with your wonderful illustrations...thanks for the inspiration!

  2. Dude. It's fantastic. My favourite part of your painting is Dorothy. She looks like she's straight out of Oliver Twist or Newsies or something.

    Again, fantastic work!

  3. I just missed you at the con ( you were in deep conversation), but I got to see the traditional version of this up close. Both are fantastic. I like all of your Oz steampunk illustrations, but this may be my favorite.

  4. Nice one man! It could be cool to put some of that really saturated red in the shadow masses of the characters - cuz you just know that in a field full of those bright red mushrooms, that would show up on all the downward facing planes of those characters, especially Dorothy.

Still though, love the occasional blue mushroom, and I think its great that you haven't buried all the nice oil painting with digital effects. You're good at that!

  9. I love this painting but why did you finish it digitally? You were so close to being done when you switched mediums why not just finish it in oil?

  10. Brilliant Justin. Just brilliant. And there is a distinct but serious shift from your other work here. It's in the eyes I think. I love it!
