The Battle of Five Armies: Process, Day 3

I don't usually work in this method of object by object execution.  But I am taking a lot of notes from some other artists to try and learn something new on this one. I prefer to work in broader washes of color and tone and then work backwards from larger swaths of paint to smaller.

  3. Looking great, Justin. I particularly like the layers you are creating with colour - the unsaturated blues of the goblins in the foreground says a lot about the distance to the dwarves and Beorn in the middle ground.

Would love to know more details about the changes you are making to your regular processes. What are the benefits of doing things this new way for example?

  4. The piece is looking good so far, Justin. I know with a project of such scope that it's easy to feel as though you can lose control, but in my experience, 8 times out of 10 it pulls together on the last day.

The other two times it's a learning experience.
